2012: Year in Review as Jacyln Ong

As the 2012 closes by, I spend more time looking at my old blogs and wonder what have I done ever since I have stopped blogging. It does bring me to times where I strive on being independent, to be certain of what I want in life. Nowadays, I find myself figuring out what is right or wrong - living practically a limbo-listic life. I find that I need to do something. But have I done anything at all?

So here's to a 2012 review of my life.

1. I left my job of 3 years to dream big
I woke up one day and I realized that I just need something bigger. So I left my beautiful colleagues with a heavy heart.

And I have decided to join the largest IT-shopping site in Malaysia, xxdxx.my. Yes, a big secret it is seeing that I know how they monitor their digital presence :)

But it made me learn, we will meet a lot of people in life. And I was lucky. Because I met the very best.

2. My sad new passport has FINALLY three stamps
I finally figure that passports are like collecting pokemon cards. Only able when you have the cash! haha. I made it to Hong Kong, Bali and Singapore.

And I would say, I am not holding his hands. Just incase David's gf bumps into this photo! lol
I still have a jawline!! So it gives me hope that I have not gone into fatter levels.

And I learn that backpacking isn't that bad. And I am not a princess!!! I am pretty much an adventure princess. So yes, I am more like Xena than Princess Aurora! So I can live in a backpacking hostel! Also one painful lesson - always plan way before you end up in the country.. lol. Don't ask why!

Next stop: Thailand for Bachelorette's and perhaps a trip to Taiwan for a mind break :)

3. I am a Malaysian, who has FINALLY step foot in another state in Malaysia
Yes, I yearn to travel the world but never the ones near me? And so, I set on a road trip to Johor and Penang with my loved ones.

A trip to Penang for a short cultural sight-seeing moment

With a trip to Johor to dramatize my friend's wedding :)

Due to work, we sometimes forget the most simplest things. And we tend to dream about getting whisked away somewhere far, but the truth is. Nothing is ever better than spending time with your loved ones, no matter where you are.

4. I took up an old man sport - Fishing
People cringe at the fact that I love fishing. My girlfriend gave up and said "Hey, here take my boyfriend to fishing too. And remember to give him back for dinner". Yes, indeed fishing has made me a little tanner than I am already.
And this was the very first fish I caught.

And my T-shirt said "Sour Puss", so I believed that it Feng-shui-ed myself to catching that tiny fish! lol. I was pretty sour the whole day to be honest. But it made me learn that we can never get what we want always and if we really wanted something good - perhaps we would need to wait a little longer.

5. I passed my violin exams and joined the Selangor Philharmonics
Countless of errors and finger sprains (if such exist), I managed to get a Grade 4 in violin and well, 2013 will be my Grade 5. Hope it's an improvement that I managed to join the Selangor Philharmonics as well! Exciting :)
And opps, let me play the ukelele. Yes, I am still great at procrastinating.

Okay fine, at least some picture proof that I am still playing my violin :p

Learning the violin is almost impossible at first. But hey, I made it halfway. So it's 3 more grades to go.

6. My beautiful friend, Jill is getting married
We studied and survive college and university together. And for her to get married, well who can ever be happier than her friend? Even happier when she asked me to be her bridesmaid!

7. And I believe that I still look good at parties!
Never really did wear much make up. Too lazy so practically it's always a Cinderella moment when I am at parties :)
This is before... snooze snoozee...
And walah!!
Owh, still alive~~~~...

To be honest, never learnt anything from putting make up. hahahaha.. but hey, I still have my Miss Melaka wanna-be looks right?

8. I am still the undefeated Drama Queen!
A little over the top and annoying, I am still the Drama Queen among my family, ex colleagues, colleagues and friends! So yes, I feel victorious! :p

And so it wraps my 2012 review. I loved, I learnt and I worked. As the most ungrateful brat everyone knows I am, I know I can do better. You can do better. Everyone can do better. I am never going to give up on myself. And this year 2013, I am aiming for the stars!

Love,
Jacyln Ong

Lee Chong Ian (1987-2010)

Browsing through my old blogs to reflect what has happen over the years and where I am now. And I realize an unpublished post back in 2008. After all this years, I still miss him.

And knowing you cracking jokes at sad moments, you will be saying "Aiyo, what miss miss? later die we will meet again one lah!" :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 2008 post

I always wondered as I passed houses filled with sorrow as they mourn of the deaths of their loved one. I also too have lost my family loved ones. It is sad. And as yesterday I picked up the phone, I was all calm. This scenario has happened before. I went into the training room filled with business associates, talked calmly till the training ended.

I picked up my car keys and started my car. And as I drove, I wonder.. why did Ian leave us? Why did he never say goodbye? It was last Saturday I met him. We always made fun of Ian. We will tell him his bad choices in girlfriends, and I remember saying, his shirt looked like a McD staff that particular day. My friend on the other hand was laughing and lecturing to the fact he couldnt pour the tea right and accidentally pored it on the table which dripped on Jeremy's pants. And we were discussing that we all should be playing Laser Tag in Sunway and Ian say he still wanted to play despite the shining lights! He told us he wanted to celebrate his birthday and wanted all of us to come to his house for it. And Jeremy was at the background saying "BBQ BBQ". And as we wanted to leave it, Ian said "ok we all meet up for laser tag ok". And he said bye.

He always wanted us friends to meet up. He always made the initiative to ask us all to meet up. He always try to plan out activities. And like Jeremy always says "Ian was a good man".

The next I remember, I was crying at home infront of my laptop, listening to Jay Chou songs. He loved Jay Chou and he sang exactly just like the artist. So when I listen to it, it was like he was speaking to me. I remember his phone when you call it, it was Jay Chou saying "Hello Ta Chia Hou. Wo se Chiau Cheh Lun.. byebye wo the peng yeow yau chiek ni the tian huah liao". And well, I always thought it was Ian and Ian would time it just precisely when Jay Chou finish his sentence and he will go "Hello!" :).

I close and open my eyes and I am at Ian's house. I see his dad being strong and I now realized, Ian resembled a lot like his father. And his mom was not taking it too well. As I see her break down, my lips curve a little and my eyes started to tear up. I cried again and my other two friends, Jill and Ash cried together. And I saw Ian's body laying lifelessly, I knew, our Ian was gone. My heart was pulled as Ian's dad told us "Ian always spoke about Jacyln, Ashley and Jill - he said this are his closest friends". And as I stared down his graduation picture, his dad said "He is so proud of this paper" and I saw, he kept the graduation bear I custom made for him with a Mc D hat. I continued crying, he is really gone.

Jeremy said he was wearing his favourite shoes. And Ashley wondered if he was wearing our watch which he hinted us for his birthday. And we reminisce about the good and silly times we had. From the day we became friends, the day we celebrate dhis first and second and third birthday. And after all the crying, we managed to smile. I think people might think we are crazy - crying and laughing.

Lee Chong Ian, We all love you as a friend and brother. It is the hardest fact to accept that you are gone, but I know the memories of you will live in our hearts.

And you have certainly won my heart as my best friend in the world.

Love,
Jacyln Ong
