Wedding. Straits Chinese Style. - Daughtry Day

Straits Chinese weddings take an O.M.Freaking.G long process.. lol..

So anyway, decided to break my bro's wedding into lots of parts (yes, you can never hear the endless braggin of me.. coz hey, i'm so proud of my brother ok!!)

Here it goes,

Daughtry Day is a day where the groom side goes to the bride's house in order to propose to her and asking her hand in marriage and also her parents permission.

In the old days, people do these kind of things and in return, the parents ask for a 'compensation' when they 'give' their daughter away to the groom. It sounds like 'Ok, give me 1 kilograms of rice and you can get to marry my daughter..'

But of course, with increasing women's right these days, the 'selling' of daughters are then stopped or so we think... and practiced in a rather... un-obvious way.. haha :p

Here's the things we're suppose to 'bribe' the parents of the bride (hehe)
Then again, reminded its all for tradition and we're not really buying their daughter anymore..

Basically its all food and wine
But notice the top left hand side, the box containing the box of gold jewelery is brought to the bride's parents and showed to them BUT taken back (no we're not stingy people.. read on..).

A person assigned to be the matchmaker (usually must be of a good life; have no financial or family problems, successful and has a son or more; all to represent the good luck) would say that the jewelery would be given on the wedding day (so that the bride's parents dont run away with the loot and scam other poor guys..haha)

Then there's the groom @ my brothhhaaa... and my happy little mom
Mom: Yes!!! Finallly!!! one out.. two more to go!!!

So my bro went over to the bride's house.. and well, after lots of chit chat, the parents gave their permission for the wed of my brother,

Julius Ong and my taiso, Sarina.. Lee.. CHIANG MAI!
(haha.. damn funny her chinese name :p)..
ok fine.. shouldn't make fun of my new taiso.. *cough*
